I shot a boho desert-themed engagement session in Indio, California under an intense high noon lighting, but still making it work for these two!
I’ve always wanted to go to Coachella. Fortunately, I was able to photograph this amazing couples there for a boho engagement session. Despite the high noon lighting, it was a unique opportunity for me to photograph couples in bright sunlight!
Marilyn and Ray have been dating for about two years. Their portrait session turned out amazing despite the harsh lighting. Photographing in the sun is one of my worst fears! Coachella Valley Preserve is beautiful, but there’s no shade, so the lighting can be really harsh. This leaves really unflattering shadows on the subjects faces. If possible, I always advise my couples to pick a different time where the lighting is more favorable. The best time for amazing light is about two hours before sunset or two hours after sunrise.
This was not a favorite boho engagement session of mine because we didn’t have the best lighting. If I could do this over, I would choose a shadier location, or position the couple away from the sun to avoid that harsh light.
